Millions of people -- including CEOs and professionals at all management levels -- secretly worry they’re not as smart or talented as other people “think” they are. It's called impostor syndrome. And left unchecked, it can lead to costly consequences not only for individuals but for their organizations as well. Fortunately, there is a solution. In this session, Dr. Young offers concrete ways to deal with the feelings and worries that can hold us back and keep us from achieving more.

Dr. Valerie Young is an internationally known thought leader on impostor syndrome, whose research is focused on identifying and addressing internal barriers to achievement. Her award-winning book, The Secret Thoughts of Successful Women: Why Capable People Suffer from Impostor Syndrome and How to Thrive in Spite of It, has been published in six languages. In 2020 she co-founded Impostor Syndrome Institute to help organizations recognize and address impostor syndrome in employees and leaders.

Victoria Christopher Murray is the author of more than thirty novels. She is the winner of nine African American Literary Awards for Fiction and Author of the Year. She is a four-time NAACP Image Award Nominee for Outstanding Fiction for her social commentary novel, Stand Your Ground. In 2021, she teamed up with author Marie Benedict to co-author the best-selling book The Personal Librarian, the remarkable and little-known true story of Belle da Costa Greene, J.P. Morgan's personal librarian, who became one of the most powerful women in New York while at the same time hiding her true identity as a person of color in order to protect her employment and support her financially dependent extended family. The symposium will explore the origins of the book and its connections to New York and modern-day work environments, as well as its underlying message about how embracing or denying identity can shape one’s path, both as an employer and employee.
